#Movember 2012

Banner[72]

It's the most wonderful time of the year ... well, almost. That's right folks, Movember is almost upon us again! I'm delighted to once again be part of the local committee and spread the Mo love! What? You don't know what Movember is?!!!! Well, in short, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives. How much? Well, in 2011, over 854,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world got on board, raising $125.7 million CAD.

Over the past two years, Movember has paid homage to the Modern Gentleman and Country Gentleman, exploring his appreciation and penchant for luxury items, etiquette, craftsmanship, pride and honour. In 2012, we are getting down to the raw hard truths of the past two years and taking a look, quite simply, at what it means to be a better man. 2012 is the year of Movember & Sons. Have a look ...

Movember is all about bringing back the moustache, having fun and doing it for a serious cause; men's health, specifically prostate cancer and (NEW THIS YEAR!) male mental health. Mo Bros commit to growing a moustache for the 30 days of Movember, and in doing so become walking and talking billboards for the cause. The moustache is our ribbon, the symbol by which we generate conversations, awareness and raise funds for men's health. Want to get involved? The first step is to get yourself registered, which I certainly hope you'll do! (HERE!) You certainly welcome to join MY TEAM or create one of your own - the Mo the merrier! No way? Well, at least maybe consider giving me a donation. What do you say? I sure would appreciate it! (PSST - YOU CAN DO IT HERE.)

Whilst the growing of Mo's may be mostly limited to the guys, Mo Sistas play a vital role in the success of Movember by raising funds and awareness, letting Mo Bros know how fantastic their Mo’s are and, most importantly, encouraging the men in their lives to be aware and take care of their health. (They of course also have a twitter account and Facebook page.) We LOVE Mo Sistas!

As you can see, there are many SO many ways in which you can get involved with Movember. You can register as a Mo Bro or Mo Sista and raise funds and awareness yourself or donate to someone you know who is participating. You can also attend various events such as Gala Partés and Mo Parties or host your own event in honour of Movember.

Do you live in London (Ontario)? Here's three things you should do for sure:

Join the LONDON ONTARIO NETWORK.

Follow the MoLdnONT local committee on twitter.

Like MOVEMBER LONDON ONTARIO on Facebook.

Quite simply, this will ensure you get the entire Movember experience - tips, hints, local events and details about the Movember gala! It will be London's first and while I don't want to give to much a day, I will tell you now it will take place at Jim Bob Rae's on Thursday, Movember 29th - MARK YOUR CALENDARS! I hope you'll get involved. It is a great event, great times and all for a great cause.
